Dr. Chakravarti, the visionary behind OMBAYU, has dedicated his life to advancing semiconductor science and technology.
After completing his B. Tech. in Electronics Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Dr. Chakravarti began his career at the Atomic Energy Establishment, where he spent five years contributing to India’s early research in advanced electronics.
Pursuing his passion for semiconductor innovation, he earned his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire, USA, followed by a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), New York, in 1981. His doctoral research focused on Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) solar cell fabrication and characterization — pioneering work aimed at improving solar cell efficiency.
Dr. Chakravarti’s professional journey spans nearly four decades at IBM Corporation, where he began in 1969 as a DRAM Design Engineer working with Field Effect Transistor (FET) technology. Over the years, he contributed extensively to:

As a Senior Engineer, Manager, and Technical Consultant at IBM’s Semiconductor Research and Development Center (SRDC) in East Fishkill, New York, Dr. Chakravarti played a key role in shaping cutting-edge semiconductor processes that influenced global chip manufacturing standards.
He is the holder of 10 U.S. patents and has authored over 50 publications in leading international journals and IBM’s internal technical reports.
